Asian Contemporary Art Week kicked off Monday, May 12 and continues through May 19 with a number of exciting events celebrating the best new artwork from Asian-American artists and artists all throughout Asia.
On Saturday, May 12, Choi Jeong Hwa began working on his inflated 24-foot sculpture Breathing Flower opposite the Asian Art Museum in Civic Center Plaza.
Coming up on Friday, May 18 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm is a chat with famous photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto with Mami Kataoka.
Also opening on Friday, May 18 is the Phantoms of Asia: Contemporary Awakens the Past exhibition which showcases 60 pieces of artwork by contemporary artists and additional work from the museum collection. A preview party for the exhibition with DJs and food happens Thursday, May 17, from 7:30 pm to midnight at the Asian Art Museum.
Admission to the Asian Art Museum will be free on Saturday, May, 19 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm to celebrate the 8th Annual Asian Heritage Street Festival
