Literary Events: Censored 2012, 5 Hardcore Years of Bawdy & Eminent Outlaws
This week, SF’s lit scene is bustling with events at Modern Times, the Verdi Club and the Books Inc. in Opera Plaza.
Mickey Huff and Project Censored present Censored 2012, uncovering the top 25 censored news stories of 2010-11, this Thursday, at Modern Times — a perfect evening for conspiracy theorists, the uber in-the-know, snarky cynics and the like.
On Saturday, Bawdy Storytelling celebrates 5 Hardcore Years at the Verdi Club. The anniversary show will kick off the Bawdy’s Dirty Minds Tour, with 8 performers including sex-pert Reid Mihalko, and saucy writer, Ms. Maggie Mayhem.
Author Christopher Bram will present his book, Eminent Outlaws: The Gay Writers Who Changed America next Tuesday at at Books Inc. in Opera Plaza. Eminent Outlaws covers everyone from Truman Capote to James Baldwin, each a true literary pioneer that paved the path for many to come. The author will be in conversation with Armistead Maupin, a gay writer who’s best known for his book, Tales of the City.
